What's New in the GardenThe garden day teams are holding work parties on various days throughout the month in order to work on the February Chore list. If you haven't heard from your day leader about this, you will... If you haven't watched the video on "Spring Bed Prep: adding fertilizer and the final layer of compost", this would be a good time to do so, as we will be doing this in the chores this month. Available in the garden: * free strawberry and bare-root raspberry plants for adoption * lemons that have been thinned from the trees (use in these recipes and more, coming soon) All up at the picnic table next to the shed. On 30 January the New Members orientation meeting was held; thank you to all presenters, and welcome to all new gardeners. The meeting was recorded; if you would like to view the recording, send email to [email protected]. What's New on the WebsiteThe garden now has a Wish List -- items that would be useful if you happen to have them around, or would otherwise like to donate, and services that are needed in various parts of the garden. Some great new photos have been submitted by gardeners, and posted on the Photos page. Check it out, and if you have any photos to share, please email them (high-resolution please) to [email protected]. The list of plant parents has been updated to include Frank Waskey for fruit trees, and Deanna DeGaetano for rhubarb. There are still other available opportunities for plant parents -- take a look at the list if you are interested. Paul Mundy has been added to the list of Wednesday day leaders. New page: Recipes ! We are starting with recipes using lemons; if you have any you would like to contribute please email them There are many "Seascape" strawberry plants that need to find new homes and be adopted. They are located at the group picnic table in flats placed on the ground. Please bring your own box or bag and take as many as you like but please leave the 12"x12" trays there. We will leave the plants there for a week or two then donate them. Plant them in good compost and in full sun.
Raspberry bare root "Tula Magic" are in the white bucket and bare root "Carolina" are in the black bucket located by the strawberry flats near the upper picnic tables. Plant them in well composted soil, full sun. |
