How we trap gophers at the garden.
-The presence of Gophers can be seen by large mounds of dirt. Small holes in the beds are likely voles.
-Look for Gopher damage in the beds - plants pulled down into the hole or plants laying on the ground with no roots. Gopher tunnels can be located with a spade or dibber. Watch the video below.
-Set the trap and place in the tunnel with the hole at the end of the trap pointing up so there is "light at the end of tunnel".
-Cover the trap with wood and tar paper to blacken out all the light and create a tunnel.
-Stake down the traps so the ravens, crows, and hawks don't fly away with the gopher and the trap.
-Write down the bed, the date on the white board located in the tool shed and list any gophers caught and the date.
-Check them every day to see if they have been triggered.
-Rotate the trap so they face the other direction in the tunnel.
-Dispose of the gopher in the woods where it will become food for other wildlife.
