Watering with Tank Water
Starring: Les Grober
.
Hoophouse Watering 2021-2022
WATERING PROCESS: Use the tank catchment system garden water with the hose that is in the Hoop House. It should take about 30-45 minutes.
1. Check end of hose in the Hoop House and make sure it is off.
Then turn on water at the big tank, up path by south gate. Video posted to Sign Up Genius. The valve is at bottom of tank. RIGHTY TIGHTY, LEFTY LOOSY.
2. THERE IS NO RECORDING NEEDED in shed for water usage OR TURNING ON AT METER or any valves in the garden except at big tank and end of hose in HH.
3. KEY WATERING POINTS: Check moisture level with a stick 2-6 inches below surface at the root zone. It’s important to keep a moist, but not soaked soil, and a balance of moisture and air in the root zone to promote healthy growth. Check each bed in several places as water use varies depending on plant and placement in center or at edge of bed.
4. Water with hose. It is just a flip of the valve to open line. The hose is attached to a dedicated black line. To get best pressure, keep the hose low to the ground, above netting, otherwise it will take longer.
• How much is enough? After checking moisture levels, water beds lightly. Recheck soil moisture. A second pass may be needed. If so, water again, check again.
• Water BETWEEN plants to prevent wet leaves from disease and sun damage
• Water edges to the boards as well as middle. Water methodically down each row.
Note: There may be some winter days when little or no water is needed due to cool or overcast weather BUT be aware of the forecast for your watering day AND THE NEXT. Provide enough water to keep plants moist but not soaked until the next watering.
• Water potted items in Hoop House and in old Greenhouse. These are part of the Hoop House bounty—we just ran out of room in Hoop House and had to plant them.
5. After watering, switch “off” hose. Then go turn off valve at THE TANK.
