About the Posh Squash Garden and How to Join

We are accepting signups to receive information for 2024 memberships.

The Posh Squash is a true community garden, where everyone works and picks from the whole garden.  The distinctive feature of the Posh Squash is that it is a cooperative, collaborative garden.  The one-acre garden is not divided into plots for individual gardeners to individually garden, as so many community gardens are. The garden is a wonderful place to do some light or heavy exercise, meet people, and get great produce. If you enjoy communing with the earth and your fellow Sea Ranchers in a beautiful, organic garden setting, then membership in the Posh Squash Community Garden may be just right for you!

We are divided into six work crews (Monday through Friday morning  from 9 to noon, and Monday afternoon from 1 to 4).  Each member joins one of the crews and agrees to work at least 3 hours per week.  Members also must water one Saturday morning per year and participate in several “work parties” during the year.  Many members also take on additional responsibilities such as making planting decisions, tending to specific crops, and maintaining garden infrastructure.  Gardening generally begins in the first week of March, and continues through mid November, but some activities continue year-round.

There are generally a limited number of new memberships available each year.  Applications will be sent out after January 1 of each year to those who have indicated interest so it’s important to request information before December 31.  We have a new members orientation at 2PM on Sunday February 25, 2024 at Del Mar Hall, where new members learn more about the garden.

Membership is open to those who reside in or own property at The Sea Ranch.  Dues are $160 per year per household.  Gardeners in each household must be 12 years or older and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
